Vanitas : Fruits & Plants

This collection represents and is an extension of my Final Studio course assignment (Instructor: Adham Zargham) in my MFA in Painting at University of Tehran. Contrary to the collections such as “Looking in the Mirror” and “Duet”, I rediscover vibrant colours and forms in “Fruits and Plants”. As part of the Vanitas tradition of still-life paintings with fruits and plants which represent the futility of earthly pleasure, this collection reflects on the harmony of colour and form in these objects; looking at them more sympathetically as celebrations of life despite the imminent death. Thus it becomes a connection between still-life paintings and portraiture.
